A comprehensive class exploring the fundamentals of painting portraits in oil while reviewing the principles that underlie all good art. Tom stresses a problem-solving approach, rather than teaching a specific painting style. His easy-going, friendly approach provides an enjoyable opportunity to study composition, lighting the subject, using various tools, different approaches to a color palette, and working from a live model. Tom will demonstrate techniques while maximizing students' easel time and individual attention. Required supply list here!
$120/8 weeks
Tom is new to our teaching faculty. With a degree in studio painting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an artistic career spanning three decades, Tom has received more than two dozen awards for creative achievement, including recognition from the American Advertising Federation and the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles. Twice, fellow portrait artists honored Tom as one of ten finalists in the Portrait Society of America's International Portrait Competition. He also was honored with one of four special Merit Awards from the same organization.
